Characters

Kartik Aaryan as Roohan: The actor brings so much charm and humor with him, but he kind of feels like a half version of Akshay Kumar's character from previous films.

Vidya Balan as Mallika: She is one of the strongest presences throughout the film and does pretty good in bringing her character to life, making the memory last.

Madhuri Dixit as Mandira: She has less screen presence but adds depth to the story.

Triptii Dimri as Meera: The woman is underutilized; however, she justifies her talent in the scenes where she is a center of attraction.

Themes

This film is based on some themes such as identity, family, and supernatural. The horror elements get coupled with comedy, making this ride entertaining for viewers. Most of the humor seems to be derived from miscommunication and spooky situations.

Humor and Scares

Funny moment after funny moment fills up the movie. Some are so perfect, while some sound quite forced. In terms of horror factors, there are jump scares, and the settings themselves contribute to the eerie feel, but some viewers might feel these scares less than they had in previous movies.

Conclusion

This is where the movie comes to life. After two hours of building up to this point, it is very shocking that the climax provides shockers for the viewers. Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit are absolutely brilliant in their performances during the final act.

Criticism

While the movie has some fine moments it also has a weak moments. It appears to have a very dragged out initial half of it. Also, songs in certain frames disturb the flow of this movie. Many critics are of the view that an interesting climax with much length while building it is taken.

Often seems stale, as it too much banks on old gags and less on the actual new. The character of Kartik Aaryan doesn't really materialise until the climax. His promise is really seen there but was bogged down a lot by earlier writing decisions.
